DIY Mermaid Dream Catcher
Adding DIY projects to the nursery is a great way to get exactly what you want and add some details made with love, extra special for your little sweetheart when she arrives! Since mermaid nurseries are everywhere right now, I though I'd show you this amazing mermaid dream catcher DIY for your nursery. This was my first ever dream catcher, and I didn't think it was too bad....a little time consuming but pretty easy overall:)
Here's a list of what you'll need to get started:
Wooden Embroidery Hoop
2 Spools of Ribbon to wrap your hoop
1 Spool of Cord Ribbon to weave
5-7 Spools on assorted ribbons to hang down
Charms, Beads, or Shells to decorate *make sure these fit on the cord you are weaving with (I didn't!), I found these in the jewelry making section at my local craft store.
The first step is wrapping the ribbon around your hoop. I chose a thin (like 3/8") satin ribbon. You can place a small dot of glue with a hot glue gun to get started, otherwise just tuck and start wrapping. My spool ran out just before I finished, so I did have to use glue to start another roll, and at the end I glued on the inside to finish it up.
For this next part....it's actually easy once you get going, but so hard to describe. I knew how I wanted it to look, but had no idea how to accomplish this, so of course I went to Pinterest for some advice! There are a couple of really good tutorials, I found the image below the most helpful for weaving my string in the center and WikiHow has a great video tutorial as well!
As you're weaving, don't forget to add those charms/beads/seashells in where you want them!
When I got to the center and wanted to finish, I tied a double knot and then added some beads and a charm, ending with another double knot.
The final step is just adding the ribbons (and anything else you want) to the ends. I started like this, and added in all the other colors I wanted:
I was so happy with the final outcome and think this would be so amazing in a mermaid nursery, give it a try!
